The 3-Step Process

Downloading a GIF follows the same simple process as any other media:

  1. Copy the Link: Find the tweet with the GIF and copy its URL.
  2. Paste the Link: Paste the URL into the input box on our homepage.
  3. Download: Click "Get Media". On the results page, a download button will appear for you.

Why Does My GIF Download as an MP4 Video?

This is not an error! To save bandwidth and improve performance, Twitter automatically converts all uploaded GIFs into a looping video format (MP4). Our tool simply downloads this MP4 file for you, as the original GIF file no longer exists on Twitter's servers.

The good news is that MP4 files are higher quality, have smaller file sizes, and are supported by almost every social media platform and messaging app today.

Using Your Downloaded GIF (MP4)

When you share the downloaded MP4 file on platforms like Discord, Telegram, or Facebook, it will typically auto-play and loop just like a GIF. You can also easily upload it back to Twitter.

Need a .gif File?

If you absolutely need a file with the .gif extension, you can use a free online "MP4 to GIF" converter. However, for most uses, the MP4 file provided by our downloader will work perfectly and look better.
